If you need one letter — an initial, a monogram, a variable name — it is quicker to copy it from a list than to type it into a generator. Tap any line below to select the whole of it. For full words and sentences, the cursive text generator converts as you type.

Why eleven script letters look slightly off
Look closely at a word in the lighter script style and you may notice that a few letters do not quite match their neighbours: a different slant, a heavier stroke, a slightly different size. It is not your eyes, and it is not a bug in the generator.
Most script letters were added to Unicode together in 2001, as one block of mathematical alphabets. But eleven of them were already in the standard, because mathematicians and physicists had been using them as symbols for decades:
ℬ ℰ ℱ ℋ ℐ ℒ ℳ ℛ ℯ ℊ ℴ
Rather than encode those letters twice, Unicode left gaps in the new block and pointed back to the existing characters. The practical consequence is that the script alphabet is stitched together from two different places, and a device may draw those two places with two different fonts. When that happens, the eleven older letters come out looking like cousins of the rest rather than siblings.
Old English has the same quirk on a smaller scale. Five of its capitals — ℭ ℌ ℑ ℜ ℨ — are older characters filling gaps in the newer block.
Bold script has no gaps. All 52 letters were added together, so they always come from the same font and always match. If a name contains B, E, F, H, I, L, M or R as a capital, or a lowercase e, g or o — which is most names — bold script is the safer choice.
What does not exist
- Cursive numbers. Unicode has bold, double-struck, sans-serif and monospace digits, but no script or blackletter ones. Numbers pass through unchanged.
- Cursive punctuation. Full stops, commas, apostrophes and question marks stay as they are, which is usually what you want.
- Accented letters. There is no script é, ñ or ü. A generator can only leave them plain.
- Other alphabets. The script and blackletter sets cover the 26 Latin letters only. Cyrillic, Greek, Arabic and the rest have no equivalents in these styles.
What these letters are, and are not
These are text characters. They paste into a bio, a caption, a message or a document title, and they keep their shape because the shape is part of the character. They are not a font you can install, and they are not a guide to handwriting: the letterforms are a typographer's idea of formal script, drawn by whichever font your device supplies, and they differ from the cursive taught in schools.
That also means the exact shapes vary from one device to the next. What you see on an iPhone is not identical to what a friend sees on Windows or Android. For anything permanent — print, a logo, a tattoo — choose a real typeface and work from that. If letters appear as empty boxes instead, this guide explains why.
One more thing before you paste: a screen reader cannot read these as words. Use them for decoration and keep anything important in plain letters. More on that here.
